Chapter summary of "What's In the Meat" from Fast Food Nation by Eric Schlosser

Each class will be broken into groups to read sections of the chapter, What's in the meat? Each group should work together to summarize the basic information for their section of the chapter. Students will get a number (1-9). The number you draw corresponds with a section of the chapter below. Be sure you are reading and summarizing the correct section. You should take notes on scratch paper as you read. When you're done, you'll work together to write a summary (in Word). By the end of the hour on Monday, your group must have your summary of your section posted on the page under the correct section heading.

Editing the wiki page:  Click on the link for your class hour below. One person in the group can make the heading. Copy the heading exactly from the handout. After your heading put your first names and last initials. Example: (Summary by Joe L., Sam P., and Cory M.) Only one person can edit at a time (that means only one from the entire class). When that person has saved the page, another member of the group can now click on the edit button and make changes and additions. You will need to be patient.

About View, Edit, Save, and Save and Continue buttons: View is the page as it is seen on the Web. To edit (make changes, add content) you must click on the edit tab. Always save (and save often). No other person can edit the page while you are, so you should not "hog" the space. Allow others in your team to work on the document. [I can see who edited what and when]. If you click Save, the screen will go back to the view screen and you'll have to click Edit again. If you click Save and Continue, the page will stay in the editing view and you will not have to click on the Edit tab. You will have to click the Save button before the wiki will allow you to click on the View tab. Be careful that you are aware of this or you might lose work that you thought you saved.

Each student must also read another class's summary, the entire page (not just your section), and make a comment on that page. Comments should not be one liners: "great job" or "way to go." Also, do not criticize another group for sentence faults or usage errors (even though there should not be any). This would just be embarrassing. Instead, since what they have presented is a summary of the information in the chapter, your comment should be a reaction to what you've learned from their summary. DO NOT simply restate what another student has said. So, you will need to glance over the comments before you make yours. Read the entire summary before you write your comment. You must be logged in to post a comment.
