Products Being Advertised
In our articles we found out a lot on marketing techniques and what advertisers are advertising. One of the most prominent types of ads today is food ads. In almost every commercial break there is an add for food, it could be for snack foods like cheese its or fruit snacks or for a restaurant or fast food joint like McDonalds or Burger King. Advertisers send messages to children and adults every minute of every day. With all of these ads flying at people, some of them are bound to make an impact in their brains that won’t go away.
            Recent studies show that children under twelve are food advertiser’s main objective to manipulate into buying their products. They use cartoon characters like Shrek and Spongebob Square Pants to lure young kids in. The top three food categories aimed for kids are candy, chewing gum, and snacks. Obviously, with so many kids being exposed to all this advertising, they are going to have health problems because they will choose the food that they see the most. This is a major problem. Obesity is beginning to take our country over and its starting with the kids. Next time you see Spongebob on television, chances are you aren’t watching his show. He is probably doing a food ad. Don’t let this manipulate you. Remember, if you give in and by their products you are helping make this country a place of obesity.

I am writing you with concerns to the amount of ads that are being targeted at our nation’s children. If you watch even just a few moments of advertising during children’s programming you will find that an alarming amount of advertisements are for junk foods making the children want the food and eat the food making them more obese than they already are. Now I don’t know if you personally have any kids but if you do  I hope that you are with me when I say that our kids shouldn’t be getting ads targeted to them at young ages and they especially don’t need the food ads for happy meals or candy or anything else that is unhealthy for them. I believe that there should be more channels offered other than public television that have commercial free children’s programming so that our children can be offered simple entertainment and not have their attention on what is being advertised to them. I hope I have made my point on how our kids don’t need ads targeting them until they are older. Parents can monitor the television their children watch. They also don’t always need to buy the unhealthy food that their children are exposed to. The health of our kids is at risk because of the media and parents may be the only thing to help stop it.
