Advertising to Children
By: Mike H, Joe F, Jared
According to New Study Finds That Food Is the Top Product Seen Advertised by Children - Among All Children, Tweens See the Most Food Ads at More Than 20 a Day thirty-eight percent of all food ads shown for teenagers and children are about snacks and other junk food. There are three main target ages for advertising which are two through seven, eight through twelve, and thirteen through seventeen. Among kids and adolescents from 6 from to 19, the obesity rate has tripled in over the last 40 years. This is going on because kids are getting lazy and thus they are getting fatter.
According to MSNBC: stop advertising junk food to kidsthe lack of exercise is one of the major problems with childhood obesity today. Obesity increases the risk of type 2 diabetes and other diseases. The foods that being advertised on T.V. are high in calories and low in nutrients. Scientists say that evidence is limited on whether T.V. advertising leads to obesity. The growth in new food products for kids has grown from 52 in 1994 to nearly 500 in 2004. Companies are targeting children so that the kids will spend their money on the product.Overall we have learned that teens are defianely getting fatter because the TV advertisements are making them buy fat foods and then they have a lack of exercise also.
So to sum it up there is a massive imbalance in the American culture today. Some kids are pushed by their parents from a young age to get college scholarships in sports, while others spend so much time in front of a screen that they begin to look like the Michelin Man. What our parents took for granted, constant physical activity, our generation is turning it into a chore. It makes you ask, what is the problem with Amercian Society today?

I think that many toy and fast food companies are using TV ads for a bad cause. All these ads do is show a toy that never goes out of style and food that looks good but isn’t good for you. You never see an ad about how good apples are. You only see ads for the stuff that is not good for you.
Children are getting lazier and fatter. All kids do is sit inside and watch TV. Kids see ads on TV that tells them to buy this product and eat it because the kids on the commercials are skinny and they are having fun eating the food. McDonalds is targeting children by using toys from movies.
Parents are doing nothing to help their kids. Parents are eating the same junky fast food as kids are. Parents need to step it up. They need to tell their children to eat right and get healthy. They also need to enforce their kids to do some exercise.
TV ads are the reason that kids are getting fat and lazy. The TV ads tell them what to buy. The ads lie to the children by telling them that this product will make you happy every time you use it or eat.
